Almanac Realty Investors Backs AmCap Ventures with $250 Million
Almanac Realty Investors has committed $250 million to Stamford-based AmCap Ventures, marking the first major deployment from its new $1 billion Horizon vehicle. The deal provides growth capital to the retail-focused real estate firm while simultaneously supporting a broader strategic partnership with the Australian Retirement Trust.

The capital injection arrives as AmCap, which is rebranding to ACX, aggressively expands its footprint in grocery-anchored and necessity retail sectors. Under the leadership of CEO Jake Bisenius, the firm maintains a focus on high-barrier, supply-constrained metropolitan markets. The infusion will support a pipeline of acquisitions designed to leverage the company’s vertically integrated management platform.
To signal the scale of this new momentum, AmCap concurrently closed on a portfolio of eight open-air retail assets spanning 771,000 square feet across seven states, including California, Arizona, and Colorado. These properties, anchored by national chains such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, bring the company’s total managed portfolio to 5 million square feet. Justin Hakimian, Managing Director at Almanac, noted that the investment targets platforms with hands-on leasing and management capabilities capable of driving risk-adjusted returns.
For the Australian Retirement Trust, this commitment serves as a cornerstone for its long-term strategy to allocate 25% of its real estate portfolio into operating company structures. Michael Weaver, General Manager of Mid Risk Assets at the fund, highlighted the resilience of necessity-based retail as a primary driver for the partnership. The Horizon vehicle remains focused on core and core-plus assets, distinguishing its strategy from traditional value-add closed-end funds by emphasizing lower-leverage, stabilized operating platforms.
