FREELANDER 8 Enters Mass Production Ahead of Middle East Debut
The first mass-produced FREELANDER 8 units have rolled off the assembly line at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover facility in Changshu, China. This milestone signals the brand’s shift from development to global distribution, with vehicles now undergoing intensive desert and urban road testing in preparation for an official launch in Abu Dhabi this September.
The Changshu manufacturing site, designated as the FREELANDER Super Factory, represents a combined investment exceeding 3.5 billion USD. The facility utilizes over 1,100 robots and end-to-end digital traceability to meet international standards for new energy vehicles. Each FREELANDER 8 undergoes rigorous validation, including ADAS calibration and heavy-rain simulation, to ensure reliability under diverse environmental conditions.
To address the extreme climate of the Middle East, the company has integrated its Super Intelligent Valet Parking (SIVP) system into the vehicle. This feature allows users to remotely summon and park vehicles via a mobile app, bypassing the discomfort of high summer temperatures. As road trials continue across desert and coastal terrains, the brand aims to position the UAE as its primary gateway for international expansion, banking on a blend of British design heritage and Chery’s advanced electrification technology.
