Battery Network and Waste Industry Groups Partner to Mitigate Fire Risks

The collaboration targets the growing volume of end-of-life batteries entering the waste stream, a major driver of facility fires and worker safety threats. By integrating The Battery Network’s three decades of stewardship expertise with the advocacy reach of the National Waste & Recycling Association, the partnership seeks to standardize recovery efforts across all 50 states.

Central to the initiative is the expansion of the "Skip the Bin! Turn Your Batteries In!" campaign, which uses public outreach to steer consumers away from tossing batteries into household trash. Beyond public awareness, the organizations plan to deploy practical tools for waste management firms to improve internal safety protocols. Leo Raudys, CEO of The Battery Network, noted that the partnership reflects the urgent need for robust infrastructure as electrification increases. Michael E. Hoffman, head of the association, emphasized that collective action is essential to protect facilities and communities from the dangers of lithium-ion disposal.
