Ideal Power Pushes Semiconductor Tech into AI Data Center Infrastructure

Austin-based semiconductor developer Ideal Power is accelerating the commercialization of its B-TRAN technology, targeting the high-growth AI data center market. The company recently secured a long-term wafer foundry agreement and is co-developing a solid-state circuit breaker prototype for use in NVIDIA-powered 800V DC energy systems.

Ideal Power reported a net loss of $3.4 million for the second quarter of 2026, up from $3.0 million during the same period last year. Despite the rising operational costs, the company significantly bolstered its balance sheet, ending the quarter with $41.3 million in cash and cash equivalents following a $27.7 million registered direct offering. CEO David Somo emphasized that the company is shifting its focus toward converting existing sales funnel opportunities into volume production orders.

Central to this strategy is the expansion of B-TRAN applications. Ideal Power is currently finalizing low-current solid-state circuit breaker prototypes for a lead customer in Asia, with expectations for commercial availability by the fourth quarter of 2026. Simultaneously, the company has begun collaborating with an industry partner to develop a solution specifically for U.S. hyperscalers utilizing NVIDIA’s Rubin Ultra 800V DC architecture. To support this growth, the company added Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Chief Marketing Officer of Coherent Corp., to its newly formed Advisory Board, citing his extensive background in AI infrastructure.
