The report highlights the potential for CenterPoint Energy’s planned transmission improvements to modernize the regional grid, specifically aiming to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events while meeting escalating energy demand. According to Joshua D. Rhodes, Chief Technology Officer at IdeaSmiths and a research scientist at The University of Texas at Austin, these investments serve as a crucial component in sustaining long-term regional economic health.

Beyond the construction phase, the study estimates that the completed infrastructure will support 1,100 ongoing positions. When combined with similar transmission projects currently planned by other utilities across the state, the total projected economic output reaches $30 billion annually, with potential tax contributions climbing to $300 million per year. CenterPoint Energy is presently engaging with stakeholders and property owners to refine project designs, with a broader set of community commitments expected to be unveiled tomorrow.
