Revenue Teams Struggle to Scale Sales Coaching Despite Proven ROI
While 77% of revenue organizations claim to have a coaching framework in place, nearly two-thirds fail to provide weekly guidance to even half of their sales representatives. A new benchmark report from Ambition reveals that this execution gap is directly undermining quota attainment across major industries.

The State of Sales Coaching in 2026, which surveyed over 300 sales leaders, highlights a disconnect between the intention to develop talent and the reality of frontline execution. Only 30% of organizations maintain a disciplined weekly or bi-weekly coaching cadence. Instead, 43% of teams rely on ad hoc or sporadic check-ins that leave performance to chance. The data indicates that structured, frequent coaching is a primary driver of success; organizations that coach more than 75% of their reps weekly are twice as likely to hit high quota attainment levels compared to those with lower coverage.
Consistency remains a significant hurdle. Although most companies possess a framework, fewer than 40% report uniform adoption among their management ranks. This variability in quality often prevents teams from reaching their targets, as organizations with inconsistent coaching are significantly less likely to see high-level quota success. While AI is emerging as a powerful tool to standardize and improve these interactions, only 26% of companies have fully integrated it into their processes. According to Nora Oliveros, Head of Marketing at Ambition, the findings prove that good intentions without systematic execution fail to produce results at scale. Firms utilizing dedicated coaching platforms currently report higher consistency and better coverage, suggesting that the path to improved performance lies in moving away from manual, unmeasured management styles.
