National Urban League Honors Nina Easton and Pattie Sellers
The National Urban League has named Nina Easton and Pattie Sellers, co-founders of the leadership organization JOURNEY, as 2026 Women of Power. The award recognizes their ongoing commitment to expanding professional opportunities and fostering equity for women leaders, a mission they have pursued through their nonprofit since 2021.
The honor was presented July 30 during the league's annual conference in Nashville. Before an audience of 1,500, Sellers highlighted the stark reality of corporate gender representation, noting that while female leadership in the Fortune 500 has grown from a single CEO three decades ago to roughly 10% today, the pace of change remains insufficient. Easton, formerly the chair of Fortune Most Powerful Women International, emphasized that the organization’s 116-year history of advocacy serves as a critical blueprint for their current work.
Other notable honorees at the luncheon included Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, HSBC US wealth head Racquel Oden, and Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle president Michelle Merriweather. The event, emceed by journalist Michelle Miller, celebrated individuals working across sectors ranging from social justice to public health. JOURNEY currently supports a cohort of over 200 members focused on scaling impact in fields such as artificial intelligence, global security, and climate science, operating on the premise that direct coaching and strategic networking are the primary engines for placing women in top-tier decision-making roles.
