CVC DIF acquires firstcolo to scale German AI-ready data centers

CVC DIF has agreed to acquire a significant majority stake in Frankfurt-based operator firstcolo from CUBE Infrastructure, aiming to accelerate the development of high-performance, AI-ready digital facilities. The transaction, expected to close by late September 2026, secures a platform for expanding critical infrastructure across Germany.

The partnership centers on the FRA7 project in Rosbach vor der Höhe, a greenfield site designed to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The facility will feature a total capacity of 24 MW, including 16 MW of IT load, and liquid-cooled racks capable of supporting 200 kW each. By targeting a power usage effectiveness (PUE) rating below 1.2, the project emphasizes energy efficiency and the integration of waste-heat recovery systems in collaboration with the regional energy provider OVAG.

Firstcolo, founded in 2007, currently serves over 350 enterprise customers with two operational sites in the Frankfurt metropolitan region. While ownership shifts, the company’s leadership remains intact: CEO Jerome Evans, COO Nicolaj Kamensek, and CFO Dennis Bergfeld will continue to manage the business and retain equity stakes. CVC DIF views the investment as a strategic move into a supply-constrained market, leveraging firstcolo’s existing operational resilience to scale into a leading national colocation provider.
