Salt Lake City’s The Lip Releases Self-Titled Debut Album

The record features staples such as "Takes 2 Much," "Friends," and the standout track "Castaways," each bolstered by existing music videos. To capture their signature groove-driven sound—a blend of reggae, ska, and alternative rock—the band tapped Greg Downs at Palehorse Sound in Logan, Utah. Downs, who previously engineered The Backseat Lovers' When We Were Friends, mixed and mastered the project to ensure the studio versions maintained the band's live chemistry.

Visual identity remains central to the release, with the album artwork originating from a ballpoint pen sketch by lead singer and guitarist Tanner Smolinski. Alongside Smolinski, the band consists of Wayne Aggen, Anthony "Richie" Richardson, and Peyton Keene. The Lip draws stylistic inspiration from acts like Sublime and Khruangbin, focusing on rhythm-heavy arrangements that define their local presence.
