Google Locks New Camera Looks Feature to Pixel 11 Hardware
Google is introducing a sophisticated image processing tool called Camera Looks, designed to strip away the clinical aesthetic of mobile photography by mimicking the gritty texture of vintage digital cameras. However, the company confirmed this experimental feature will remain exclusive to the newly launched Pixel 11 series for the foreseeable future.
The new processing method works at the sensor level, creating distinct visual styles like 'Digi' to move beyond the hyper-sharpened, high-dynamic-range look typical of modern smartphones. By manipulating raw data differently, Google aims to capture the specific character of older digital sensors rather than simply applying a standard post-processing filter.
Despite the interest in bringing this capability to a wider range of devices, Google spokesperson Alex Moriconi stated that current camera updates are strictly tied to the latest hardware.
