Law Firm Probes Baylor Genetics Over Patient Data Exposure

The Houston-based laboratory Baylor Genetics is facing scrutiny after an unauthorized party infiltrated its network this summer, potentially exposing the Social Security numbers, medical records, and financial details of patients and staff. National class action firm Edelson Lechtzin LLP has launched an investigation into the security failure.

The breach occurred between June 11 and June 17, 2026, though the laboratory did not complete its internal review of the compromised information until July 30. Forensic analysis revealed that hackers accessed sensitive data, including genetic testing results and health insurance information for patients, alongside government identification and financial records for current and former employees.

Edelson Lechtzin LLP is now evaluating potential legal claims against the facility, citing the failure to adequately protect highly sensitive personal data. Individuals who received notification letters from the laboratory are being urged to monitor their credit reports and review insurance statements for signs of fraudulent activity. The firm is currently offering free case evaluations to affected parties as the investigation continues.
