Retired Lt. Gen. B.J. Shwedo Takes Helm of PenFed Foundation
A decorated veteran with a background in cyber operations and intelligence, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Bradford J. "B.J." Shwedo has been appointed president of The PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes. He officially assumed the post on August 3, transitioning from his role as a senior vice president at PenFed Credit Union.
Shwedo’s tenure at the Foundation marks a shift toward leveraging deep military experience to bolster support for service members and their families. James Schenck, CEO of both PenFed Credit Union and the Foundation, noted that Shwedo’s record of operational excellence aligns with the organization's core mission of assisting veterans as they navigate the shift to civilian life.
Before his transition to the private sector, Shwedo commanded at nearly every level of the Air Force, culminating in his role as director for Command, Control, Communications and Computers/Cyber for the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. His career also included command of the 25th Air Force at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, where he managed a force of 30,000 personnel focused on global intelligence and cyber operations. Since joining PenFed, he has focused on cyber security and risk analysis. As president, he will now oversee the Foundation’s partnerships and programs, which have distributed over $55 million in aid since the organization's founding in 2001.
