Google integrates personal tracking into Find My Device app

Android users can now track the real-time location of friends and family directly within the Find My Device app. This update, part of the broader March feature rollout, bridges the gap between hardware tracking and personal location sharing, effectively consolidating two distinct Google services into a single interface.

The application now features a dedicated People tab, surfacing contacts who have opted to share their location through Google Maps. This functionality extends to users on iOS, ensuring cross-platform visibility for those within your circle. Beyond monitoring others, the interface allows you to manage your own sharing permissions, including adjustments to session duration.

This shift brings Google’s utility closer to the structure of Apple’s Find My app, which has long utilized a split-screen design to toggle between device and contact locations. By folding the location-sharing capabilities of Google Maps into the device-finding ecosystem, the company aims to simplify the retrieval of both lost hardware and moving targets.
