DFRobot at TAMYZ FORUM: Bridging the Gap Between AI Tools and Creation
At the TAMYZ FORUM 2026 in Astana, DFRobot Vice President Sandy Zhang outlined a shift in global pedagogy, arguing that schools must move beyond teaching students to use AI tools. Instead, she urged educators to foster a developer mindset that prioritizes understanding how algorithms function and how to solve real-world problems.

The two-day forum, which drew 3,000 attendees to Kazakhstan, served as a platform for Zhang to contrast regional approaches to AI integration. While North America focuses on curriculum frameworks and Europe prioritizes ethics and governance, Asian markets are rapidly scaling pilot programs. Despite these geographic differences, Zhang identified a universal challenge: the gap between students’ daily interaction with AI and the struggle of schools to provide meaningful, hands-on instruction.
To bridge this divide, DFRobot advocates for tangible experimentation. Using tools like the HUSKYLENS 2 AI Vision Sensor, students can move away from viewing AI as an abstract black box. By collecting their own datasets and training models, learners observe firsthand how data influences output, a process that inherently introduces lessons on algorithmic bias and privacy. Zhang noted that this practical application allows students to test, analyze, and refine their work.
Beyond hardware, DFRobot is pushing for an integrated ecosystem that combines the Mind+ programming platform with curriculum support and teacher training. This infrastructure aims to link K-12 classrooms with university research and global maker communities. Through partnerships with institutions like Kathmandu University and Chiang Mai University, the company is attempting to standardize open-source hardware access, ensuring that learners are not just passive consumers of software, but active creators capable of translating ideas into functional technology.
