Vail Resorts Sets 2026/27 Opening Dates Amid Super El Niño Hopes

With preseason forecasts pointing toward a potential Super El Niño winter, Vail Resorts has unveiled its opening schedule for the 2026/27 season. The company is banking on a combination of aggressive snowmaking and favorable weather patterns to kick off operations, starting with Keystone Resort, which aims to lead the North American season in October.

Bill Rock, President of Vail Resorts' Mountain Division, noted that while the company cannot control the snowfall, the anticipation of a blockbuster season has spurred an optimistic outlook for the months ahead. To ensure consistent conditions, the firm continues its long-term investment in snowmaking infrastructure, having poured over $100 million into these capabilities since 2015.

Following Keystone’s October target, the rollout continues through November. Breckenridge is slated to open November 6, followed by Vail Mountain on November 13. By November 20, the company plans to have Whistler Blackcomb, Park City Mountain, and the California resorts of Heavenly and Northstar operational. Beaver Creek and Crested Butte follow on November 25, with Kirkwood and Stevens Pass scheduled for December 4.

Financial incentives remain a primary focus as the September 7 deadline for the lowest Epic Pass prices approaches. Vail Resorts has introduced new pricing tiers for the 2026/27 season, including a 20% discount for young adults aged 13–30. Additionally, the company is rolling out the 'Epic Experience' strategy, which includes upgraded mountain dining and the launch of Epic Ascent, a concierge-style private lesson service. Major events are also on the horizon, with Shaun White’s The Snow League making its debut at Park City Mountain and the Rockstar Energy Open returning to Breckenridge.
