Mednet Deploys AI Tool to Bridge Cancer Clinical Trial Gap
Ninety-three percent of adult cancer patients never participate in clinical trials, a shortfall often driven by the difficulty of matching patients to complex protocols. Mednet is now deploying TrialMatch, a new AI-driven tool funded by a $2 million National Cancer Institute contract, to integrate trial discovery directly into physician workflows.
The platform functions as a clinical assistant within Mednet’s existing network of 45,000 physicians. By processing natural language descriptions of patient profiles—including biomarkers, cancer stage, and diagnosis—the AI identifies relevant trials while the doctor is already engaged in clinical decision-making. This approach aims to bypass the fragmented registries that currently force oncologists to step away from patient care to manually search for enrollment opportunities.
Nadine Housri, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at Mednet, noted that the tool addresses a critical inefficiency where trials struggle to reach the clinicians managing eligible patients. Beyond the immediate release, the company is partnering with the SWOG Cancer Research Network to conduct a prospective study. This evaluation will measure whether the integration of AI-assisted matching effectively increases physician awareness and boosts enrollment rates. The tool is available immediately at no cost to members of the Mednet community.
