Ex-Sequoia Investor Jeff Wang Prepares $2 Billion Hedge Fund Debut
Jeff Wang is set to launch Augnition Global Investors this October, entering the market with more than $2 billion in committed capital. The Silicon Valley-based firm, which emerged as a focal point of industry speculation earlier this year, marks one of the most significant hedge fund debuts of 2024.

Operating out of Menlo Park, Wang and his deputy Alan Lo are targeting a dual strategy that spans both public and private equities. Their track record drives this momentum; during a decade leading Sequoia’s global equities business, Wang oversaw a portfolio expansion from $600 million to over $9 billion, delivering an approximate 17% annual return. Wang and Lo have committed a substantial portion of their personal wealth to the new venture to signal alignment with their backers.
The firm has finalized a core team of at least five professionals to support its mandate. Key appointments include CFO Joe Mitchell, formerly of Hurricane Capital; partners Jeffrey Su and Sung Choi, who bring experience from Crescent Park Management and Kodai Capital; and analyst Monica Shi, a Stanford MBA graduate with a background at McKinsey. This launch arrives as demand for fundamental stock-picking strategies rebounds, with recent Goldman Sachs data indicating that 30% of hedge-fund allocators intend to increase their exposure to long-short equity funds this year.
