Parrish Medical Center Secures $5.2 Million for Rural Health Expansion

The Titusville-based hospital secured two distinct awards: $4.4 million dedicated to preventive and home-based care, and $793,000 to bolster the local healthcare workforce. These resources aim to bridge the geographic gap between rural residents and essential medical services. The workforce component includes a commitment to partner with local high schools and community colleges, creating a pipeline where participants complete a five-year rural service period in exchange for specialized training.

George Mikitarian, president and CEO of Parrish, emphasized that the funding aligns with the organization’s mission to heal families and communities. The hospital competed against 81 other organizations to qualify, undergoing a rigorous merit-based review by the Agency for Health Care Administration. U.S. Representative Mike Haridopolos noted that these initiatives are vital for communities where distance often dictates the quality of care. To execute these programs, Parrish has assembled a coalition including the Florida Institute of Technology, Brevard County Schools, and several regional health providers to ensure the infrastructure is ready for immediate implementation.
