Coway Secures Design Grand Slam with IDEA 2026 Honors
South Korean home appliance giant Coway has achieved a rare international design milestone, capturing top honors at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards. This victory marks the company’s 17th consecutive year of recognition and completes a rare sweep of the world’s three most prestigious design competitions.
The Industrial Designers Society of America recognized Coway for two specific products: the Square Fit Air Purifier Series and the Inverter Dehumidifier 23L. By securing this award, both units officially completed a 'Grand Slam,' having previously earned accolades at the 2026 iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Awards earlier this year.
The Square Fit Air Purifier Series earned praise for its spatial economy, featuring a footprint up to 24% smaller than previous generations while maintaining high-performance coverage. Judges highlighted the unit's minimalist aesthetic, which hides internal components, and its user-friendly, detachable anti-static top outlet. Meanwhile, the Inverter Dehumidifier 23L was lauded for its rapid performance—capable of reaching optimal humidity in 30 minutes—and its practical mobility features, including 360-degree wheels and a one-handed side-loading water tank.
Jinsang Hwang, head of the Coway Design Lab, attributed the success to the company's focus on user-centric innovation. He noted that the design philosophy prioritizes the integration of wellness-focused home appliances into the daily lives of consumers. Based in Seoul, Coway continues to expand its reach across global markets with its appliance and BEREX wellness portfolios.
