CPL Initiates Leadership Transition as CEO Todd Liebert Steps Down
After a 32-year tenure that transformed CPL into a multi-state architecture and engineering powerhouse, Todd Liebert has shifted into a Senior Advisor role. The Rochester-based firm is now operating under President Chris Colby while the Board of Directors launches a formal search for a permanent successor to lead the organization.
Liebert will remain with the company through the end of 2026, focusing on key client relationships and supporting the executive transition. His long-standing influence saw the firm expand its footprint across 25 cities and eight states, solidifying its multidisciplinary expertise in sectors ranging from healthcare to K-12 education. The firm, which currently employs over 500 professionals, maintains a strong pipeline of projects as it moves into this new chapter.
Chris Colby has stepped into the role of day-to-day leader to ensure operational stability for partners and staff. The Board’s search for a new CEO targets a candidate capable of navigating the firm’s national expansion goals while upholding the culture established during Liebert's decades of service. Both leaders expressed confidence in the firm's current momentum and the strength of the foundation built since CPL’s founding in 1975.
