Apple trims Vision Pro and Siri teams in shift of priorities

More than 200 employees are departing Apple as the tech giant pivots its internal resources away from the Vision Pro’s niche gaming and immersive content divisions. The move signals a tactical recalibration for the company’s spatial computing ambitions, even as it pushes forward with an AI-integrated Siri overhaul.

The layoffs target the teams responsible for developing software and experiences for the $3,499 headset, which struggled to gain mass-market traction since its early 2024 launch. While the company is largely dissolving its specialized Vision Pro gaming unit, leadership maintains the restructuring is designed to better align talent with future product goals. Apple confirmed the workforce reduction to Bloomberg, noting that new internal roles are being created to offset the cuts.

Hardware development remains in flux. Reports suggest the company has cooled on some entry-level extended reality projects to focus on a slimmer, lighter successor to the original headset. Simultaneously, Apple is pivoting toward smart glasses, aiming for a 2027 market entry to compete with Meta’s established footprint. Meanwhile, the Siri division—recently overhauled with generative AI capabilities—is preparing for a public beta release later this year, marking a shift toward software-led growth.
