HDFC Bank Investors Face October Deadline in Securities Class Action

Investors who lost more than $100,000 in HDFC Bank securities between July 2023 and May 2026 have until October 13 to file as lead plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit. The litigation, pending in the Southern District of New York, alleges that the bank concealed significant financial irregularities from shareholders.

The legal action centers on accusations that HDFC and its executives violated federal securities laws by masking payments to a state-owned entity. Reports indicate that the bank funneled approximately 45 crore rupees—roughly $4.7 million—to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. By classifying these payments as sponsorships for road safety initiatives, the bank allegedly disguised a scheme to offer the corporation above-market interest rates on deposits.

An internal investigation reportedly identified over ten senior officials involved in the practice, including CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan. When the news surfaced on May 27, 2026, HDFC shares dropped 4.1% to close at $23.78. Shareholders seeking to participate in the case, titled Soneji v. HDFC Bank Limited, can contact the law firm Kahn Swick & Foti or visit the ClaimsFiler portal for case evaluations.
