Centrus Energy Expands Piketon Uranium Plant to Bolster U.S. Supply

The expansion effort, first announced in September 2025, represents a significant industrial push to reduce reliance on foreign fuel sources. Centrus CEO Amir Vexler noted that the facility is positioned to play a pivotal role in national security by scaling up production of nuclear fuel. The project is projected to generate 1,000 construction jobs and 300 permanent operating roles, while securing 150 existing positions at the Ohio plant.

State officials, including Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and JobsOhio CEO J.P. Nauseef, joined the tour to highlight the collaboration between the private sector and government agencies. This initiative leverages Ohio’s established manufacturing infrastructure to meet the rising demand for carbon-free energy. By focusing on High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium, the company intends to provide a reliable domestic alternative for the utility industry, which has historically depended on international supply networks.
