Karmanos Cancer Institute to Host Fifth Annual Screening Event in Detroit

The event, held at the Karmanos Cancer Center on John R. street, offers a mix of insurance-based diagnostic tests and free preventative screenings. Participants can access low-dose CT lung scans, mammograms, and colonoscopy intake appointments, alongside walk-in skin and head and neck exams. Wayne State Health’s Mobile Health Unit will also provide blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol testing, and essential vaccinations for those in attendance.

"If you have been putting off those important cancer screenings that could save your life, this is the day to have those tests done," said April Brown, director of Concierge Services and Screening and Prevention. Beyond clinical services, the institute will provide information on genetic counseling, clinical trials, and the Tri-County Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program, which supports uninsured or underinsured patients meeting specific eligibility criteria.

While the event is open to the public, organizers require pre-registration for general activities and appointments for specific cancer screenings via 1-800-KARMANOS. Attendees must be at least 12 years old and should bring a state-issued ID and insurance information to facilitate the process.
