MSM Solutions Turns Industrial Printers Into Inspection Stations

Memphis-based MSM Solutions has debuted PortalTrack Print IQ, a software platform designed to transform standard industrial printers into intelligent inspection hubs. By integrating AI-powered fixed industrial scanners, the system identifies and blocks unreadable barcodes at the point of origin, effectively stopping defective labels before they move into the supply chain.

The platform addresses a persistent gap in manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics by replacing manual sampling with continuous, automated validation. Using Zebra Technologies' AI anomaly detection and optical character recognition, the software verifies 1D and 2D barcodes while confirming that human-readable text aligns with encoded data. Should a defect occur, the system triggers a printer interlock, halting the output instantly.

Kern Young, a system engineer at MSM Solutions, noted that the company has already stress-tested the technology through internal service bureau operations, processing 40,000 labels daily. Beyond internal use, the platform features robust APIs to facilitate enterprise-wide data integration. This development arrives as firms prepare for rigorous standards like the GS1 Sunrise 2027 and the implementation of Digital Product Passports, which demand higher levels of label precision to avoid compliance penalties. MSM Solutions and Zebra Technologies plan to host a live demonstration of this workflow on September 10, 2026.
