USPS to Raise Holiday Shipping Rates for 2026 Peak Season
The U.S. Postal Service has filed a proposal to implement temporary price hikes for domestic competitive parcels during the upcoming holiday peak. Pending approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission, the seasonal adjustments will apply to Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, and other services starting in October to manage higher handling costs.
The proposed price increases are set to begin at 12 a.m. CT on October 4 and remain in effect through January 17, 2027. According to the filing, the adjustment targets retail and commercial customers using Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select. The organization stated that these changes align rates with broader competitive market practices.
This move is part of a wider transformation plan intended to help the agency reach long-term financial sustainability. As a self-financing federal entity that receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage and services to fund its nationwide delivery network.
