TORM Reports Record Q2 Profits Amid Red Sea Shipping Disruptions

TORM plc posted its strongest quarterly results in company history, with net profits reaching $338 million for the second quarter of 2026. Driven by volatile freight rates caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and shifting global oil trade flows, the carrier has raised its full-year earnings guidance.

The company’s performance benefited from a surge in demand for replacement barrels from the United States as Middle Eastern exports faltered. Average fleet-wide time charter equivalent rates climbed to $59,301 per day, a sharp increase from $26,672 in the same period last year. CEO Jacob Meldgaard cited these exceptional market conditions as the catalyst for the firm’s decision to increase its full-year EBITDA guidance to a range of $1 billion to $1.2 billion.

To capitalize on the current climate, TORM’s board approved an interim dividend of $2.40 per share, totaling approximately $246 million. Beyond immediate returns, the company is continuing an aggressive expansion of its fleet. Following the acquisition of six resale vessels earlier this quarter, TORM secured agreements for six additional newbuilds, with deliveries slated through 2029. This growth strategy aims to solidify its position in the refined oil product transport sector despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainty affecting global transit routes.
