Ikea and Xbox Collaborate on Yxstaby Gaming Furniture Line

A stool that tilts like a joystick and an X-shaped cushion highlight the new Yxstaby collection, a nine-piece furniture range launched by Ikea and Microsoft. Marking the 25th anniversary of the Xbox console, the collaboration aims to integrate gaming gear into domestic spaces without sacrificing traditional Scandinavian interior aesthetics.

The collection features a TV stand, laptop stand, side table, lounge chair, and a multi-functional toolbox alongside decorative pieces like a mirrored display box. Designers focused on blending neutral palettes with subtle flashes of iconic Xbox green, creating compartments for controllers and cables that remain hidden when not in use. According to Ikea product design developer Philip Dilé, the project shifted away from utilitarian gaming setups toward furniture that prioritizes relaxation and social connection.

By incorporating mechanical motifs—such as the thumbstick-inspired stool that physically tilts—the designers attempted to move beyond the typical aesthetic of gaming equipment. The pieces are intended to coexist with existing home furniture, offering storage solutions for peripherals while maintaining a minimalist design language.
