Vanguard Moves to Acquire Wealth Tech Platform Altruist

Vanguard has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Altruist, an AI-powered wealth technology and custody platform. The move aims to bridge the gap between the rising demand for financial advice and the industry's current capacity to serve investors, while maintaining the specialized tools advisors rely on for daily operations.

Following the close of the transaction, which is expected later this year, Altruist will function as a standalone business. This structure allows the company to retain its existing leadership, brand identity, and entrepreneurial culture. By integrating Vanguard’s extensive investment resources with Altruist’s technology, the firms intend to accelerate the development of automated workflows that simplify account management, trading, and reporting for independent advisors.

Salim Ramji, chief executive officer of Vanguard, noted that the acquisition addresses the limited capacity of the current advice market. He emphasized that technology can expand access to high-quality counsel without sacrificing the human element of advisor-client relationships. Jason Wenk, founder and CEO of Altruist, echoed this sentiment, stating that the partnership provides the speed and capital necessary to scale their mission of lowering costs and improving efficiency for independent practitioners. While the financial terms remain undisclosed, the deal is subject to standard regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
