BAE Systems Secures $149.8 Million USS Boxer Refit Contract
A $149.8 million contract awarded to BAE Systems marks the start of an extensive modernization program for the USS Boxer. The deal, commissioned by the U.S. Navy, focuses on critical maintenance and structural repairs at Naval Base San Diego, with potential extensions pushing the total value to $180 million.
The Selected Restricted Availability project centers on upgrading the LHD 4 vessel to ensure its continued operational readiness. Work will be conducted at the company’s San Diego facilities, leveraging specialized shipyards designed for complex naval overhauls. Eric Icke, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Maritime Solutions San Diego, emphasized that the project supports the Navy’s defense mission through high-precision engineering and dedicated technical capacity.
BAE Systems remains a primary contractor for the U.S. Navy, maintaining a footprint across California, Florida, and Virginia. This specific agreement underscores the ongoing demand for deep-tier maintenance services, utilizing the company’s drydocks and land-level facilities to extend the service life of amphibious assault ships.
