Music Industry Gender Gap Persists as Women Occupy Under 30% of Rosters
Women account for fewer than 30% of creators on the rosters of major record labels, publishers, and agencies, according to a new report released today on Women’s Equality Day. The data reveals a systemic imbalance at the industry’s economic core, where female representation among managers and agents remains similarly stagnant.

The Music’s Gender Parity Index, a collaboration between She Is The Music and data platform ROSTR, analyzed over 500 companies to map the current landscape of the creator economy. Findings show that while women comprise 29.7% of rostered creators, their presence in power positions is even thinner: agents represent 25.9% and managers 26.7%. Progress has effectively plateaued, with the share of new label signings for women falling from 38.4% in 2023 to 34.3% this year.
Despite the broad industry shortfall, the report highlights the existence of the “50% Club,” a group of 63 companies and professionals who have successfully achieved gender parity. These entities prove that business models and market size are not valid barriers to inclusion. For example, agencies like TBA Agency and management firms such as Sandbox Entertainment have met or exceeded the 50% threshold. The report advocates for a sector-wide push toward parity by 2030, urging firms to move beyond observation toward concrete benchmarks and transparent outreach to broaden the talent pipeline.
