Indiana Michigan Power Proposes Major Residential Rate Reduction
Indiana Michigan Power has unveiled a plan to cut base rates, aiming to deliver $59 million in total customer savings by 2027. If approved by state regulators, the proposal would reduce annual bills for the average residential user by roughly $100 while freezing rates for three consecutive years.
The initiative follows two separate rate decreases already implemented by the utility within the first half of this year. According to the company, these savings are driven by regional load growth and increased revenue from large-scale industrial clients, specifically data centers. President and COO Maryam S. Brown stated that the move aligns with the company’s goal to pass the benefits of Indiana’s economic expansion directly to households.
Governor Mike Braun endorsed the proposal, citing it as an example of balancing infrastructure investment with consumer affordability. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is scheduled to review the plan, with a final decision expected in June 2027. Should the commission approve the request, customers would see the adjusted rates reflected on their monthly statements starting in the summer of 2027.
