Lam Research Breaks Ground on $3B Expansion to Boost AI Chip Research

The Tualatin facility, slated to open in 2028, will expand the company's existing cleanroom capacity by more than 50%. By placing specialized atomic-scale manufacturing and hardware validation tools in proximity to key customers like Intel and Micron, Lam Research intends to compress product development timelines. The project is projected to generate roughly 900 jobs during its three-year construction phase and add 400 permanent roles upon completion.

This expansion represents the firm's largest investment in Oregon to date. Beyond immediate physical growth, the initiative is expected to lift Lam’s annual economic contribution to the state to over $1.8 billion. The new lab will operate as a core node in the company's integrated global network, facilitating 24/7 collaborative engineering to meet the surging demand for memory and processing power in the era of artificial intelligence.
