The upgrade reflects a strategic pivot for the Singapore-based maritime giant, which now holds a BBB rating for its senior secured debt. KBRA pointed to the company’s ability to navigate market volatility through consistent operational performance and a high utilization rate across its massive fleet. Analysts highlighted the expansion of Seaspan’s unencumbered assets and a lengthening of average charter durations as primary drivers for the improved credit outlook.

Andreas Brauch, Chief Financial Officer at Seaspan, described the move as a validation of the firm’s disciplined capital strategy. The company currently manages a fleet of 247 vessels, including a pipeline of specialized newbuilds such as ethane carriers and car transporters. With a total capacity of approximately 2.5 million TEU, the firm continues to prioritize fleet modernization and long-term, fixed-rate leases to secure its competitive position in global shipping.
