AI Boom Propels Global Billionaire Wealth to Record $15.1 Trillion

The global billionaire population surged to an all-time high in 2025 as the artificial intelligence investment boom acted as a powerful engine for capital growth. According to the Altrata Billionaire Census 2026, the collective net worth of the world’s wealthiest individuals climbed 12.8% to reach a record-breaking $15.1 trillion.

The billionaire population grew by 8.2% over the year, reaching 3,795 individuals—the strongest expansion in five years. This growth has been unevenly distributed, with wealth concentrating sharply at the summit of the billionaire class. The world's 29 'superbillionaires,' each holding fortunes exceeding $50 billion, now control 27.2% of total billionaire wealth. This represents a significant shift from 2017, when that cohort held only 7.2% of the total.

Technological disruption remains the primary catalyst for these gains. Analysis of the 150 listed companies contributing most to billionaire wealth reveals that firms with meaningful AI investments outperformed their peers by 23% in market capitalization growth during the 2024–25 period. This surge in AI-focused business valuations, spanning cloud applications to robotics, has minted a new generation of wealth, while simultaneously driving increased volatility in tech-exposed portfolios.

Beyond market gains, the billionaire landscape is undergoing a structural transformation. A historic wealth transfer is expected over the next decade, with $6.6 trillion transitioning to nearly 5,000 direct heirs. As this wealth shifts, priorities are evolving; sports team ownership has become a primary passion asset, with over 200 billionaires now holding direct stakes in franchises. Additionally, philanthropy continues to rank as a top-two interest among the ultra-wealthy, a sector expected to see further influence as women account for a significant share of upcoming inheritances.
