Holland America Line Unveils 2028 Alaska Season with Expanded Routes
Holland America Line has opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska season, marking over eight decades of operation in the region. The upcoming schedule introduces rare coastal itineraries, including a debut transit through Nootka Sound, alongside the launch of the newly reimagined Oosterdam as the fleet’s premier vessel for northern exploration.
The 2028 program offers voyages ranging from seven to 18 days, utilizing six ships: Oosterdam, Noordam, Eurodam, Koningsdam, Westerdam, and Zaandam. Departures will span Seattle, Vancouver, and Whittier, with an additional route connecting San Diego to Vancouver. Paul Grigsby, vice president of revenue planning and deployment, noted that the season aims to balance traditional wildlife and glacier encounters with less-traveled waterways to provide deeper regional engagement.
A central focus of the 2028 season is the Oosterdam, which will undergo the "Holland America Evolution" transformation. This upgrade introduces Solo Verandah staterooms, expansive Bridgeview Suites, and the Grand Dutch Café. Beyond shipboard enhancements, the line is incorporating new scenic cruising segments, most notably through Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island, a remote area rarely frequented by major cruise lines. These additions complement existing programs like the Alaska Up Close series and specialized destination dining, which highlight local seafood and regional culinary traditions.
