Pumpkin Rebrands Preventive Care Program as Wellness Club
Pet insurance provider Pumpkin is shifting its preventive care strategy, replacing its legacy Preventive Essentials program with the new Pumpkin Wellness Club. The membership-based service aims to broaden access to routine veterinary care by decoupling wellness benefits from traditional insurance plans for cat and dog owners across the U.S. and Canada.

The program offers three distinct tiers, with monthly costs starting at $15.95 for cats and $20.95 for dogs. Unlike the previous offering, this model allows pet owners to purchase wellness coverage independently of a pet insurance policy. Members receive reimbursements for standard veterinary services, including wellness exams, vaccinations, dental cleanings, and parasite prevention. The company emphasizes the necessity of these screenings, citing data that one in five adult dogs and one in three adult cats possess hidden health issues detectable only through routine visits.
Beyond financial reimbursements, the club provides 24/7 access to a virtual pet health helpline and discounts on various pet brands. According to Michaela Ragaisis, Head of Commercial & Strategy, the primary objective is to increase the frequency of early health screenings to improve long-term outcomes. The program maintains no waiting periods, and customers may retroactively claim cash back for qualifying exams performed within 14 days of enrollment. Since its initial rollout in September 2024, the initiative has reimbursed millions in routine care expenses, positioning itself as a flexible alternative to traditional veterinary financing.
