The company is now moving into the final phase of the project, which involves the demolition of the original plant structure. The new facility features advanced treatment systems designed to lower power consumption, reduce chemical dependency, and minimize waste disposal needs.

Local resident George Evdemon, whose property abuts the site, noted that while the construction process was challenging, the company’s commitment to regular communication helped mitigate friction. Beyond the technical upgrades, the utility intends to transform the site into an educational hub, hosting tours for local students to demonstrate the role of modern infrastructure in public health. This investment is part of a broader initiative by the utility to modernize water and wastewater systems across 39 North Carolina counties.
