SmartSolve Debuts Plastic-Free PureNil 0 to Replace PVA Films
As the single-dose detergent market climbs toward a projected $6.3 billion valuation by 2035, Bowling Green-based SmartSolve is targeting the industry’s reliance on polyvinyl alcohol. The company has introduced PureNil 0, a bio-based, water-soluble packaging material designed to eliminate the microplastic runoff associated with traditional laundry and dishwasher pods.
While standard detergent tabs often use PVA films, research increasingly links these materials to microplastic pollution in water systems. PureNil 0 offers a fully flushable alternative that maintains structural integrity for powdered or concentrated cleaning agents while dissolving completely after use. This shift comes as domestic recycling rates stagnate, with approximately 40% of U.S. households lacking adequate access to effective disposal streams.
Beyond environmental impact, the material provides a strategic advantage for manufacturers facing tightening Extended Producer Responsibility regulations. SmartSolve CEO Jon Jakubowski describes the product as a scalable solution for brands seeking to move beyond conventional sustainable marketing. The company plans to showcase the technology at PACK EXPO International in Chicago this October, marking its debut on the event's floor.
