SickSlip Broadens Digital Health Reach to Sports and Medical Clearance
With over 100 million Americans lacking a primary care physician, Los Angeles-based SickSlip is pivoting to fill the gap by expanding its telehealth documentation services. The company now offers digital sports physicals, medical necessity letters for tax-advantaged accounts, and scuba diving clearances, all signed by board-certified doctors.
Founded by Dr. Adam Z. Kawalek, the company’s new SportSlip division applies rigorous screening standards to student athletes. The process adheres to the joint AAP/AHA pre-participation consensus, incorporating the American Heart Association’s 14-element cardiac history alongside optional ECG reviews interpreted via international Seattle criteria. Kawalek, an internal medicine physician at Cedars-Sinai, argues that for families without regular access to primary care, these telehealth screenings provide a necessary medical safeguard rather than just a convenient administrative shortcut.
Beyond athletics, the firm has introduced MedSlip and DiveSlip to address specific bureaucratic bottlenecks. MedSlip generates letters of medical necessity required to utilize HSA and FSA funds for health-related purchases, aligning them with IRS standards tied to verified diagnoses. Meanwhile, DiveSlip provides the physician-signed clearances needed for recreational scuba certifications. Having already served more than 3,500 patients across 30 states, SickSlip aims to standardize the digital verification process for medical documentation.
