GAC Launches S7 Hybrid SUV Through Local Assembly in Kazakhstan
Chinese automaker GAC is shifting its Central Asian strategy by bringing the S7 hybrid SUV to Kazakhstan through a localized production deal with ALLUR Group. The move signals a transition from simple exports to full-scale assembly at the Kostanay facility, aiming to capture a larger share of the country's surging market.
The partnership, formalized in February 2026, marks a departure from GAC's previous export-only model. By leveraging the manufacturing infrastructure of ALLUR, which boasts an annual capacity exceeding 125,000 vehicles, the company is positioning the S7 as the flagship of a broader rollout. This expanded lineup is expected to eventually include internal combustion, hybrid, and electric variants tailored for local demand.
This expansion comes as Chinese automotive brands experience a dramatic shift in Kazakhstan, where market share climbed from 3.8% in 2020 to 38.5% in 2025. To demonstrate the S7’s readiness for the terrain, GAC organized a media testing program near the Kapchagay Reservoir. The routes focused on testing the vehicle's all-wheel-drive performance and suspension comfort across both paved and off-road conditions in the Almaty region. For GAC, the S7 acts as the primary vehicle for this renewed market entry, cementing a long-term commitment to the CIS region.
