ERANDA Rothschild Foundation endows LSE scholarships in perpetuity

The gift enters LSE’s permanent endowment, ensuring that the scholarships remain active indefinitely rather than expiring once a capital pool is depleted. Each award covers a full three-year degree, with three new students selected every academic year. This structure provides the long-term financial stability that research often links to improved completion rates and academic success for students facing structural barriers.

Eligibility for the programme extends across eight departments, including Economics, Finance, International Relations, and Social Policy. By backing students for the duration of their undergraduate journey, the foundation aims to remove the financial hurdles that frequently deter talented applicants. This initiative formalizes a relationship between the Rothschild family and the university that began in 1968, when Sir Evelyn joined the School’s Court of Governors.

The endowment aligns with the foundation’s broader strategy of funding education through sustained, long-term partnerships rather than one-off grants. Since its establishment in 1967, the ERANDA Rothschild Foundation has distributed more than £74 million to charitable causes, with a consistent focus on medical research, the arts, and expanding access to higher education.
