Walnut Coding Secures Spot in TIME’s Top 50 Global EdTech Rankings
Securing the 44th position worldwide, Beijing-based Walnut Coding stands as the only Chinese youth programming platform to crack the top 100 in TIME’s 2026 World’s Top EdTech Companies list. The firm outperformed hundreds of international competitors, distinguishing itself through rapid portfolio expansion and significant integration with global sustainability initiatives.
The ranking, compiled by TIME and data provider Statista, evaluated roughly 6,500 companies based on a rigorous dual-metric system. Financial strength, including revenue, funding, and market capitalization, accounted for 70% of the final score. The remaining 30% measured industry impact, which scrutinized intellectual property portfolios, website traffic, and alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Since its 2017 inception, Walnut Coding has moved beyond basic instruction to build an ecosystem that includes proprietary tools like the NUTS visual coding interface and the Walnut OJ assessment platform. This infrastructure supports over 10 million paying students, with a curriculum that spans graphical programming, Python, and C++.
The company’s global profile recently gained momentum through a 2025 partnership with UNESCO to support the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development. Domestically, the impact is equally substantial: Walnut Coding’s public-interest initiatives have reached more than 40,000 schools across 31 provincial-level regions in China. By facilitating over 800 teacher training sessions and generating 7 million student participations, the company has positioned itself as a primary driver for computational literacy in the region.
