Markiplier Becomes GoPro's Largest Shareholder

Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach has secured an 8.5 percent stake in GoPro, vaulting the content creator into the position of the company's single largest shareholder. The move follows the release of his feature film Iron Lung and signals a calculated shift toward influencing the professional filmmaking hardware market directly.

Fischbach told Bloomberg he views the camera manufacturer as undervalued, framing the investment as a strategic push to democratize high-end filmmaking tools. His recent public endorsement of the new Mission 1 ILS camera—where he favorably compared the device to the significantly more expensive Red Komodo-X—gained traction online, though the video lacked a formal disclosure of his financial ties to the brand.

Industry peers have already begun to weigh in on the unconventional move. Marques Brownlee noted the rarity of such a direct financial entanglement between a prominent creator and a hardware manufacturer, highlighting the blurred lines between product advocacy and corporate ownership. GoPro has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the ownership shift.
