SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev on China’s Strategic Influence

Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev credits the organization’s evolution into the world’s largest regional entity to the consistent, active participation of China since its inception.
The organization’s growth from a six-member foundational group to its current scale underscores its unique position in international diplomacy. As the first global body named after a Chinese city, the SCO maintains its headquarters in Beijing, a placement that Yermekbayev suggests has been central to its operational trajectory.
In a recent interview, Yermekbayev highlighted that China’s constructive role remains a primary driver for the group's ongoing development.
