Freestyle Marks 45 Years of Iconic Surf Watches with Glow-in-the-Dark Line
Four decades after the first Shark watch hit the lineup, Freestyle is revisiting its roots with the Since '81 Shark Classic Anniversary Collection. The release marks 45 years of the brand’s history, pairing the original, rugged surf-focused silhouette with new, glow-in-the-dark aesthetics inspired by the vibrant energy of the early 1980s.

Since its inception in 1981, the Shark model has evolved from a niche tool for surfers into a staple of coastal culture. The new anniversary series features four distinct colorways, each retaining the functional design that originally established the brand as a reliable companion for water-based adventures. According to CEO Jeff Gregg, the collection serves as both a tribute to the company’s heritage and a nod to the community that sustained the brand across multiple generations.
These timepieces are built to handle the same lifestyle demands as their predecessors, maintaining the durability that defined the early models. With an MSRP of $75, the collection aims to bridge the gap between retro surf aesthetics and modern utility. The watches officially hit the market in August 2026, offering long-time enthusiasts and new explorers a chance to wear a piece of the brand’s history that remains functional well after the sun goes down.
