Horizon Petroleum Clears Mechanical Hurdles at Lachowice 7 Well

The recovery process proved more arduous than originally projected. Engineers faced unexpected delays while milling the old packer, a task complicated by a sudden influx of natural gas into the wellbore. While the pressure event required immediate intervention to maintain control, the incident provided valuable data; the loss of 200 cubic meters of completion fluid into the formation suggests that the Upper Devonian carbonate reservoir remains highly permeable and potentially productive.

Roger McMechan, Horizon’s Chief Operating Officer, noted that the primary mechanical risks of re-entering the old well are now resolved. With the debris cleared, the company is shifting focus to re-perforating a 65-meter interval of the reservoir. The upcoming program involves a diverted acid stimulation to optimize gas flow, followed by rigorous testing to determine sustainable output. Horizon expects to secure a service contractor for these final steps during the latter half of September. Historically, the site has shown promise, with previous operators recording flow rates as high as 8.9 million cubic feet per day.
