iRobot Unveils Flagship Roomba Max 875 with Carpet-Sealing Tech

iRobot is moving to dominate the high-end floor care market with the launch of its Roomba Max 875 Combo, a flagship robot vacuum that introduces proprietary SealForce technology to mechanically press against carpet fibers for deeper cleaning, alongside a suite of AI-driven mopping and obstacle-avoidance capabilities.

The Bedford-based company claims the 875 model represents its most significant engineering shift in years. By utilizing a lowering chassis skirt to create an airtight seal, the device concentrates 35,000 Pa of suction power directly into carpet pile rather than allowing airflow to escape. This mechanical redesign is intended to address one of the most persistent complaints in home robotics: the inability of standard vacs to extract deep-seated debris from rugs.

Beyond vacuuming, the unit incorporates an ultrasonic ThermaMist system that applies heated water to loosen dried stains, paired with a PowerSpin Max roller mop that exerts 18 Newtons of downward pressure. To navigate complex home environments, the robot employs PrecisionVision AI to identify over 300 household objects and DriLift technology to automatically retract its mopping components when carpet is detected. The system pairs with the AutoWash Dock, which handles roller cleaning at 176°F and debris disposal for up to 90 days.

Alongside the 875, iRobot introduced the Roomba Plus 678, a secondary model that brings similar sealing technology and SprayForce AI pre-treatment to a more accessible price point. Both models are available immediately through the company’s website, with broader retail distribution across North America scheduled for later this month.
