Acer imagines a gaming handheld with a built-in keyboard
PC gamers face a constant trade-off between the portability of Steam Deck-style handhelds and the utility of full-sized laptops. Acer is challenging this divide with its new concept hardware, the Project DualPlay Mini, which integrates a functional keyboard directly into a compact, swiveling gaming device.

The DualPlay Mini functions primarily as a Windows handheld, sharing the aesthetic DNA of Acer’s existing Predator Atlas line. While it mimics the standard layout of analog sticks, a D-pad, and traditional face buttons during mobile play, its unique flip-and-swivel hinge allows the user to rotate the 8-inch screen. This movement reveals a compact, backlit keyboard, transforming the handheld into a miniature productivity or strategy-gaming rig.
Because the device remains a concept without a planned retail launch, Acer has kept internal specifications minimal. The prototype utilizes an Intel chip cooled by a dual-fan array—featuring one metal and one plastic fan—and includes two rear-facing USB-C ports with Thunderbolt support. While its diminutive screen size makes it unlikely to replace a primary workstation, the device offers a compelling middle ground for travelers who prioritize keyboard-dependent PC titles without carrying a secondary machine. The company is showcasing the hardware at IFA this week, though it remains to be seen if the design will ever transition from a prototype to a consumer product.
