Acer enters the handheld arena with the Intel-powered Predator Atlas 8
After a rocky start in the mobile gaming sector, Intel is pivoting to custom silicon with the new Arc G3 and G3 Extreme chips. Acer is among the first to embrace this hardware, unveiling the Predator Atlas 8, a beefy handheld designed to challenge the current market leaders this October.

The Predator Atlas 8 arrives with two distinct configurations: the top-tier Arc G3 Extreme paired with 12 Xe3 GPU cores, and a standard Arc G3 model featuring 10 cores. Both variants utilize 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and an innovative cooling system featuring the industry's first metal fan, which Acer claims boosts airflow by 10 percent. The device is built around an 8-inch, 1920 x 1200 IPS display that supports a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate and boasts a peak brightness of 500 nits.
Connectivity is a clear priority for the new platform. The Atlas 8 includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, and a full-length M.2 2280 slot for storage. Despite these high-end specifications, the device opts for traditional carbon film joysticks rather than Hall effect sensors, though it compensates with Hall effect triggers and customizable back buttons. While Intel promises day-0 graphics driver updates and precompiled shaders to mitigate stuttering, the company remains silent on official pricing and expected battery longevity ahead of the October launch.
